Instead of just programming courses or lectures that no longer have much that is new to say, why not look for new topics for dental meetings? I suggest having a day at one of these events dedicated to explore and discuss current issues in dentistry.

The talks should be organized as seminars to discuss the main topics affecting the profession. Since this is a study of our problems, they should be lead by an expert in practice management.

A secretary would document everything submitted and issue a document with the conclusions reached. These results would be sent to various dental organizations and to dentists who did not participate in all of the seminars.

Topics for discussion would be sent to registered participants prior to the meeting in order to choose the most interesting issues for most dentists. Potential topics to consider would be training courses, primary care, research development, advertising, franchised clinics, fees, financing, credit cards, legislation, health policies, costs, competition, career, educational curriculum, role of dental institutions, support staff, retirement, health plans, agreements, rates, representativeness, uniforms, and many others.

This initiative would bring something new to meetings since it is based in common problems to everyone. Dentists would be heard, learn what other colleagues think, and seek shared solutions.

After the meeting, the most interesting topics could be studied by committees to try to find definitive solutions.
