SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - The Barcelona College of Implantology (ESI Barcelona), an institution affiliated with the California-based University of Loma Linda, has joined the Dr. Marcos Diaz Clinic and Dental School to provide high-level education in various specialties. The official opening ceremony takes place on Saturday, November 19th and will include the participation of directors of both institutions.

Founder and director of ESI Barcelona, Dr. Sergio Cacciacane, said the new school will offer intensive courses, and masters degree education of the highest quality in Dominican Republic, which will have official recognition from American, European and Dominican institutions.

ESI Barcelona and Dr. Marcos Diaz Clinic and Dental School have opened ESI Santo Domingo. The education program starts in 2012 with courses in implants, prosthetics and aesthetics. In addition, Dr Marcos Diaz Clinic and Dental School offers courses in orthodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry and other specialties.

Known for its Spanish name as Clínica Dental Docente Dr. Marcos Díaz, it’s facilities are truly spectacular and feature cutting edge technology. American speakers at an international congress here who were given a tour were amazed to find the latest developments, asepsis and disinfection systems, CT tomography, and even a recovery room for complex surgical procedures.

The Best Possible Dean
Dr. Diaz, founder and director of the clinic and a prominent dentist and international lecturer in his own right, said that one of the leading U.S. researchers, Dr. Franklin Garcia-Godoy, has agreed to be Dean of the Dental School.

Garcia-Godoy is currently professor and research dean at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. In addition to numerous research papers, he is director of several journals including the American Journal of Dentistry.

Garcia-Godoy has made contributions to oral health that have captured worldwide attention, as his studies on stem cells from extracted teeth. He is co-author of "Primary Preventive Dentistry," the main textbook for dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants, president of the Cardiology Division of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and of the Society for Physical Regulation Biology and Medicine (SPRBM), and founder of the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA).

For his part, Dr. Cacciacane is a renowned specialist in implant dentistry, who has worked for years with the American Academy of Dental Implantology, and has been instrumental in getting a track of lectures for Spanish-speakers at AAID annual congresses, such as in the last meeting in Las Vegas this past October. Dental Tribune Latin America will publish shortly several articles on the Las Vegas congress and the possibilities it opens for Latin American and Spanish implantologists.

In an extremely busy 2011 schedule Dr. Cacciacane has lectured virtually all over Latin America in an attempt to provide knowledge about the various techniques and advances in dental implants. In November for instance he will lecture in Mexico, he will be at the ESI Santo Domingo opening and then will travel to the Greater New York Dental Meeting.

ESI's educational system follows University of Loma Linda protocols, which guaranteer that they meet the most stringent training requirements. In fact, the final tests for the Master program in Implant Dentistry is taken at Loma Linda before a panel of U.S. experts.

Advantages of the courses
One of the great advantages of the ESI Santo Domingo courses is that those who take and pass them will have a triple degree: European, American and Dominican.

ESI is an official European school and an educational extension of Loma Linda University, so it can provide official European and U.S. education certification. The Dr. Marcos Diaz Clinic and Dental School can issue official Dominican diplomas.

ESI and Dr. Marcos Diaz Dental School announced a grand opening that will be attended by the founders, directors and faculty who will be responsible for delivering courses.

In addition, ESI Santo Domingo will offer tours of its facilities, considered one of the most advanced of its kind worldwide. One of the foreign visitors who saw it said it was on par with the best existing clinics in the United States.

Information about one-week intensive courses and master programs in implantology and esthetics will be provided at the opening. In attendance will be Dr. Cacciacane, Dr. Diaz, Dr. Armando Badet, Director of the Prosthetics Master Program, ESI Barcelona, Edgar Teddy Romero, Director of the Master in Dental Aesthetics, ESI Barcelona, Norberto Puello and Castulo Valdez, professors at Santo Domingo Dental School and now at ESI Santo Domingo.

In addition, Dr. Jaime Lozada, Director of the Department of Implant dentistry at the University of Loma Linda, will welcome attendees by video conference.

The conference program will be conducted at the Clínica Docente Dr. Marcos Díaz in Santo Domingo, and includes the following topics:

—"Prosthetics in the 21st Century" by Armando Badet
