MEXICO CITY — Over 7,000 people registered here for the International Congress of the National University of Mexico (UNAM), which offers scientific lectures by well-known speakers such as Fotinos Panagakos, Shannon Mills, Rosa María Escalante, Enrique Jadad, Mario Leonardo or Adolfo Pérez Brignani.

UNAM School of Dentistry Dean, Ms. José Arturo Fernández Pedrero, thanked AMIC for the support received and encouraged all institutions to work together for a better dentistry that benefits all Mexicans.

Shortly before his speech an interesting video by Dr. Enrique Edwards entitled "A Day at UNAM Faculty of Dentistry" was screened. It showed vignettes of events at the school, from classes to practices, from free dental care offered to the public to students engaged in recreational activities in the larga campus of the university.

AMIC Dental President, Ayub Safar, praised the scientific program of UNAM, saying it has great lecturers at national and international level. Attendees at this conference "are guaranteed academic success, thanks to its extraordinary organization," he said.

Safar added that this is a "reflection of the leadership of our greatest house of studies", which will result in academic gains "and improvements in oral health for all Mexicans."

Dr. Guillermo Ortiz Villalobos, president of the National Federation of Colleges and Schools of Dentistry (Fenfeo) stated that in Mexico there are currently 25,000 students in dentistry.

"It is not the quantity but the quality," said Ortiz. "The important thing is to graduate 25,000 good dentists." He also advocated for certification of all dental schools, and for student mobility between schools.

Conference rooms were filled to capacity because of the attractive lecturers and topics presented by specialists such as Marc Liechtung (USA), Violet Haraszthy (USA), Edgar Garcia Hurtado (Colombia), Margatira Gaiden (Argentina) Mario Eduardo Fregnani and Leonardo (Brazil) or Adalsa Hernández (Venezuela), among many others.
