Mexico’s Unique Dental Alliance

MEXICO CITY, Mexico — The opening ceremony of the 53rd AMIC Dental Expo showed that Mexico has achieved a unique alliance, supported and coordinated by the Mexican Dental Industry Association (AMIC Dental), which includes the main dental college and professional association in the country, as well the government's top health officials at the federal and city levels, among many others.  

100 Years of Scientific Excellence at UNAM

MEXICO CITY, Mexico — The dental school of the largest university in Latin America marked the 100th year anniversary of UNAM with an impressive scientific congress at the AMIC Dental Expo. Renowned international speakers such as Mariano Sanz (Spain), Stephen Flint (Ireland), Miriam Rossi (Canada), Marcelo Baum (Brazil) or Olga Lucía (Colombia) participated in the event.

A market of 80,000 dentists

MEXICO CITY, Mexico: All eyes were focused on the barely one month old iPad being used by the Mexican company Ah Kim Perch for express check out at their huge booths - a sign of the cutting edge technologies companies are using here to gain market share in a country with 80,000 practicing dentists. And with 4,000 dental students graduating every year, Mexico has registered a 10% annual growth in the dental industry in 2009-2010.

A Congress for Haitian Dentists

El presidente de la Asociación Dental de Haití, Dr. Samuel Prophete, fue invitado por el presidente de la Chicago Dental Society, Dr. Michel Stablein, a dar un discurso durante la sesión de apertura del reciente Chicago Midwinter Meeting (CDS) como parte de una iniciativa de FOLA y Dental Tribune Latinoamérica para ayudar a los colegas de Haití tras el terremoto del pasado enero.

Congreso “Una Sonrisa por Haití” en México

El Dr. Adán Yáñez, presidente de la FDILA, con sede en México, dedicará su congreso en Puerto Vallarta a la campaña "Una sonrisa por Haití". En el mismo, que cuenta con el apoyo de FDI, FOLA y Dental Tribune y se realizará del 12 al 16 de mayo, participarán odontólogos latinoamericanos que donarán sus honorarios para ayudar a sus hermanos haitianos.

Solidaridad de NYU y Schein

La Escuela de Odontología de la Universidad de Nueva York (NYU) ha donado 25 sillones dentales a la Sociedad Dental de Haití. Los mismos serán transportados a ese país gracias a la compañía Henry Schein, que ha donado ya US $1.200.000 para ayudar a la población haitiana. Además, Steve Kess y Tim Sullivan de Schein USA, manifestaron que enviarán técnicos para instalar las unidades, uno de los primeros pasos de la empresa para asistir directamente a los odontólogos de ese país.

El contingente brasileño en el Chicago Midwinter Meeting, el congreso más tradicional de Estados Unidos, hizo sentir su presencia. Los directivos de la Asociación Brasileña de Odontología (ABO) viajaron a esta ciudad para promocionar el Congreso Mundial de la Federación Dental Internacional (FDI) en Bahia, Brasil, que se celebrará del 3 al 5 de septiembre. La celebración del congreso mundial de FDI, cuyo presidente es el Dr. Roberto Vianna, constituye un logro y un reconocimiento internacional de la odontología brasileña. Chile dentists OK after earthquake

MIAMI, USA: The director of Salon Dental Chile Miguel Wechsler, the main dental expo in Chile, told Dental Tribune Latin America over the phone that the capital Santiago was only slightly affected by the recent powerful earthquake and that there was a tense calm in the nation, caught by surprise in the middle of the summer vacation. Mr Wechsler said that Chile's "strict building codes have saved thousands of lives, and 95 per cent of the infrastructure in the capital is intact."

The president of the Haiti Dental Association, Dr. Samuel Prophete, was invited by the Chicago Dental Society to give a speech at the opening session of the Chicago Midwinter Meeting as part of an initiative of Dental Tribune Latin America to help colleagues in Haiti following the January 12th earthquake.

Chicago was Founded by a Haitian

Dr. Samuel Prophete, president of Haiti Dental Society, visited Chicago to meet with the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Chicago Dental Society (CDS) and seek help for dentists in his country. Dr. Prophete was very happy to learn that Chicago was founded by a Haitian named Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable, with whose statue in downtown Chicago Dr. Prophete was photographed. "It was destiny that brought me here", he said.
